Romney Takes Jabs At
Hispanics, Young Voters In New Audio Recordings
By Hannington Dia
On Wednesday, NewsOne reported that Mitt Romney (pictured)
blamed his Election 2012 loss on President Barack Obama’s “gifts” to his Black, immigrant, and
female supporters. Now audio from that conference call with Romney’s donors has
been released, and none of it sounds pretty.
“It’s a proven
political strategy, which is give a bunch of money to a group and, guess what,
they’ll vote for you,” he said, according to ABC News, which published the audio. In an apparent
reference to Hispanic voters who backed Obama by 71 percent, Romney remarked
that “immigration we can solve, but the giving away free stuff is a hard thing
to compete with.”
Further
pressing the issue Republicans have in relating to Hispanic voters, Romney said
Obama won their constituency through his numerous amnesty options. “With
Hispanic voters, free health care was a big plus,” he commented. “But in
addition with regards to Hispanic voters, the amnesty for children of illegals,
the so-called DREAM Act kids, was a huge plus for that voting group.”
Ever gracious
in defeat, Romney believes that while Obama’s “gifts” to his constituents won
his re-election, he’ll pay for them down the line:
“What I would
do if I were a Democrat running four years from now, I’d say, You know what,
dental care will be included in ObamaCare…and Republicans will say, ‘No, that’s
going to cost a trillion dollars,’ and the Democrats will say, ‘That’s fine,
you know, we’ll pay it.’”
Turning his
attention to young people, 60 percent of whom voted for Obama, Romney cited the
president’s loan forgiveness and healthcare overhauls as a clincher for the 30
and under crowd.
“With regards
to the young people, for instance, a forgiveness of college loan interest, was
a big gift,” he said. “Free contraceptives were very big with young
college-aged women. And then, finally, Obamacare also made a difference for
them, because as you know, anybody now 26 years of age and younger was now
going to be part of their parents’ plan, and that was a big gift to young
people.”
All
interesting claims.
But perhaps
the one likely to raise the most eyebrows is Romney’s claim that Bill Clinton called and told him he thought he was
going to win the election, until Hurricane Sandy interfered: “I spoke with
President Clinton the day before yesterday. He called and spent 30 minutes
chatting with me,” Romney disclosed.
“He said, ‘A
week out I thought you were going to win.’ And he said, ‘But the hurricane
happened, and it gave the president a chance to be presidential, and to look
bipartisan, and you know he got a little more momentum.”’ Before Romney made
his unfortunate comments, his former VP running mate Paul Ryan blamed their loss on
“urban areas“:
“I think the
surprise was some of the turnout, some of the turnout especially in urban
areas, which gave President Obama the big margin to win this race,” Paul Ryan told WISC-TV in his firstinterview since the election Monday.
Obviously,
these two lack the concept of what it means to lose with dignity and grace.
